Summer is soon approaching, and for many people, that means that the window of opportunity to go on vacation is creeping up. Vacation can be really stressful… trying to organize where you’ll be staying, how you’ll be getting there, how you’re going to pay for it… not to mention all of the stress that builds up once you actually get all of that information sorted. I always make lists of everything I need. I just recently went on vacation over spring break to Turks and Caicos, and I found that when I travel, I always tend to pack the same essential things. So, without further ado, here are my go-to items to pack for vacation that (hopefully) will make your travel experience a little bit easier.
1. A Sturdy Backpack
I’ve had the same backpack for 5 years and it still hasn’t failed me. This backpack has been all over Italy, Qatar, Antigua, Turks and Caicos, and multiple spots across the US. Needless to say, it has been through hell and back, and it still hasn’t torn or broken in any way. This Herschel backpack suits all of my travel needs, and I would recommend this brand to anyone. This specific style goes for about $50, and for the quality you get, I would say that’s a pretty good deal.
2. A Durable Pair of Sneakers
The brand doesn’t matter, but comfortability does. Comfortability is going to be your main concern when you’re frantically sprinting across the airport because you’re about to miss your connecting flight at 1 am (I’ve been there, it’s not fun.) Comfortability is also going to be key when you’re walking around all day in whatever part of the world you’re exploring on your vacation. Blisters are the bane of everyone’s existence, so getting a pair of sneakers that will feel good on your feet will make all the difference. I recommend Vans or Converse because I think they’re both very comfy and they’ll last a long time (I’ve had the same pair of converse for seven years.)
3. A Portable Charger
If there is one thing that you absolutely need when traveling (unless you’re not much of a tech guy) is a portable charger. These little things are incredibly useful. I can’t begin to say how many times I’ve been stuck with a dead phone in a place where I really need it to be charged (aka, the middle of Times Square, trying to direct my friend via phone call to where I was.) Basically, having a portable charger will make your life a lot easier and less stressful, especially if you’re the type of person that relies on their phones to help them get places. How are you gonna order that Uber from the airport if your phone is dead?
Maybe I’m just weird, but Vaseline has always been a staple for me, and not just for travel purposes. It’s great for pretty much anything. Lips chapped? Vaseline. Have a cut? Vaseline. Hands are dry? Vaseline. It’s perfect for all of your travel needs, especially because when you’re on an airplane and you’re that high up in the air, your skin becomes very dry, so you’ll need that extra bit of moisture.
5. A Good Cardigan/ Sweatshirt
I wear sweaters all the time, but I wear this one especially when I travel. Having a sweater when traveling is good because sometimes the air on the plane can get kind of chilly. Also, if you’re traveling from warm to cold weather, you’ll need some extra layering when you land. Another reason why having a sweater is useful is because you can use it as a blanket or a pillow while you’re traveling!
Now, you’re ready to go on your vacation. Well, after you book the flight, your hotel, and all of that other good stuff. These five essentials will help make travel a little easier for you, and they’re all fairly cheap as well. No one wants to have a bad travel experience, and hopefully these products will enhance your chances of having good, easy travels. And if not, you always have your big sweater to sleep on if you get stuck in the airport!
